The Delhi government has introduced a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy aimed at making the capital cleaner and reducing pollution. The updated policy places greater emphasis on fully electric vehicles, encouraging people to shift away from petrol and diesel-powered transport.
One of the biggest goals of the policy is to significantly expand Delhi's EV charging network. The government plans to install around 32,000 charging points across the city over the coming years, making it easier for EV owners to charge their vehicles and helping reduce range anxiety.
Unlike previous policies, the new plan does not provide special incentives for hybrid vehicles. Instead, the focus is on promoting fully electric cars, buses, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles to accelerate the transition toward zero-emission transportation.
Officials believe the policy will improve air quality, lower fuel dependence, and support Delhi's long-term environmental goals. If implemented successfully, it could encourage more people to adopt electric vehicles and strengthen the city's position as one of India's leading EV markets.
