Passport fee increased

Passport fee increased

People planning to apply for a passport in India may have to spend more from 1 July, as the government has announced a revision in passport application charges. The updated fee structure will apply to new passport applications, renewals, Tatkal services, and some other passport-related requests.

Under the new system, the cost of a regular passport application will increase compared to the current fee. Tatkal services, which provide faster passport processing, will also become more expensive. The government says the revised charges are part of an update to passport service fees.36-page passport

(Normal): ₹1,500 → ₹2,500

36-page passport (Tatkal): ₹3,500 → ₹5,000

60-page passport (Normal): ₹2,000 → ₹3,500

60-page passport (Tatkal): ₹4,000 → ₹6,000

Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): ₹500 → ₹750

For many applicants, this means it may be a good idea to complete the application process before the new rates come into effect. Those applying after 1 July should be prepared to pay the higher charges.

Even though the fees are increasing, the passport application process remains the same. Applicants can still submit their forms online, book appointments, complete document verification, and track their application status through the official passport service portal.

Overall, the fee revision is expected to affect students, professionals, tourists, and families who are planning international travel in the coming months. If you have been delaying your passport application, applying before the new charges begin could help you save money.
