Russia–Ukraine War Intensifies: Deadly Strike Near Kyiv
The Russia–Ukraine war is entering another tense phase as Russian attacks continue across Ukraine.
One of the most serious recent incidents happened near Kyiv, where a Russian strike hit an ammunition facility in the village of Myla. The attack triggered a major fire followed by a series of powerful explosions. Ukrainian authorities say the death toll has risen to 38, while several people remain missing. Rescue workers have continued searching the damaged area and dealing with unexploded ammunition.
The blast also caused significant damage around the site, including nearby buildings. Ukrainian officials have opened an investigation into the storage of military ammunition close to residential areas.
The attack came during a wider period of intense Russian air operations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched nearly 2,000 attack drones, more than 1,600 aerial bombs and 31 missiles against Ukraine over the past week. These attacks have placed additional pressure on Ukraine’s air-defense systems.
At the same time, Ukraine has continued carrying out drone strikes against targets inside Russia. Ukrainian forces have targeted Russian energy and military-related infrastructure, showing that the conflict is increasingly involving long-range attacks far from the front lines.
Russia has also warned that it is preparing large-scale strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. That announcement has raised concerns about what could happen as winter approaches, when damage to power and heating systems could have a major impact on civilians.
